How Many Hours of Live Music? Booking a Band in Toronto (2026)

When you ask for a band in Toronto, one of the first questions is how many hours you need them. A short feature, a few hours of dancing and a day that runs from a ceremony to a reception are different bookings, with different prices. Work out which parts of your event need live music, then send us your date, venue and guest count, and you can compare options with prices for bands who are available that day.

Map out your event

Write down the parts of your event and their times: arrival, food, speeches, dancing and the end. Mark the parts that need live music. If the marked parts run together, the time from the first to the last is roughly what you’d book.

A short feature

For a launch, a reception or a party where the music is one part of the event, an hour or less of live music can be enough. Ask whether the band takes a shorter booking.

A few hours

For a party with dancing, ask how long they’d like to play, in one stretch or with a break, and what plays during the breaks so the room doesn’t go quiet.

Afternoon into evening

A wedding, or any event that runs from the afternoon into the evening, may need live music at the start and again later. Ask whether the band can play at two separate times in one day, such as a smaller group for the ceremony and the full band for the reception, and what they do in between. Tell them when they can eat and where they can wait.

Setup and sound check

Ask how long they need to set up and sound check, and whether that’s part of the hours you book. Check with the venue when the band can load in.

Questions to ask before you book

  1. What’s the shortest booking you take, and the longest?
  2. How long do you play at a time, and what plays during the breaks?
  3. Can you play at two separate times in one day?
  4. Can a smaller group play part of the event?
  5. How long do you need to set up and sound check, and is that part of the hours?
  6. What happens if our event runs late?
  7. Can we see a video from a recent event?

What changes the price

The price depends on how many hours they play, whether it’s a Saturday or in the holiday season, a bigger band, sound and lighting if the venue has none, and travel outside Toronto.

How we put this together

We wrote this from what people tell us when they ask for a band in Toronto: the type of event, the time of day, how long and the style of music. It doesn’t list prices, because they depend on your date, your hours and the band you choose. You’ll see prices with the options we send.

Your next step

Tell us your date, venue and guest count, and we’ll send you Toronto bands who are available that day, with prices: book a band in Toronto
