For a corporate event in Vancouver, the right size depends on what the music is for, the room and the guest count. Send us your date, venue and guest count, and you can compare options with prices for bands who are available that day.

What the music is for

Tell each band what you’d like the music to do: play in the background while people talk, give a short feature people stop to watch, or get people dancing. For background or a short feature, ask about a smaller group. For dancing, ask about a full band with drums and sound.

The room and the guest count

Tell each band the size of the room and how many guests you expect. Ask which lineup they’d suggest, and how much floor space it needs.

Smaller groups

A duo or trio, such as a singer with a guitarist or a jazz trio, needs less space and less power. Ask whether they bring their own sound, and how they keep the volume right for a room where people are talking.

Bigger bands

A four-piece or larger band needs a stage area, more power and more time to set up and sound check. Ask what they need from the venue, and check with the venue when they can load in.

One band, several lineups

Some bands offer more than one lineup. Ask whether a smaller version of the band can play while guests arrive and eat, and the full band later.

Questions to ask before you book

Which lineup would you suggest for our room and guest count?

Do you offer a smaller and a bigger version of the band?

How much floor space, power and setup time does each lineup need?

Do you bring your own sound and lights?

How long do you play, and what plays during the breaks?

Can we see a video of the lineup we’d book?

If our venue asks for proof of insurance, can you send it?

What changes the price

The price depends on how many hours they play, whether it’s a Saturday or in the holiday season, a bigger band, sound and lighting if the venue has none, and travel outside Metro Vancouver.

How booking works with AGNT

AGNT is a booking company. You send us your date, venue and guest count, and we check which bands in Vancouver are available that day. We send you options with prices. You pick one, and it’s booked once the deposit is paid. If your first pick isn’t available, we’ll tell you and suggest bands with a similar style who are.

Some of the Vancouver bands you can book through AGNT are Famous Players Band, March Hare Band and Doe Bender Jazz Trio. You can see more on bands for hire in Vancouver.

How we put this together

We wrote this from what people tell us when they ask for a band in Vancouver: the type of event and how long they need the band. It doesn’t list prices, because they depend on your date, your hours and the band you choose. You’ll see prices with the options we send.

Your next step

Tell us your date, venue and guest count, and we’ll send you Vancouver bands who are available that day, with prices: book a band in Vancouver

Featured photo by Miguel Alcântara on Unsplash

Bands come in many sizes, from an acoustic duo to a large band with horns.
